Badlani was arrested on Monday and has been remanded to police custody till June 6. His wife Riya called it a conspiracy by the police, saying that her husband is innocent. She said that though he is into small-time betting but not involved in spot-fixing in the IPL matches.
Kishore Badlani was arrested by the police from Mumbai international airport around 3 am, when the Badlani family landed there on their way back from a Europe tour. Badlani’s wife Riya said that the family was out on its tour of Europe. As police said that the Badlani escaped from the country when his name cropped up in the spot-fixing case, she said that they had not ran out of the country but were on a usual family trip. Riya rubbished the allegations that their Europe trip was nothing more than an attempt to elude the law. They had also gone to Mahabaleshwar before Europe to attend a family function, she added.
It may be recalled that Badlani has been arrested twice by the police earlier in case of betting. According to police, Badlani has also made a torture home in Ghatkopar in Mumbai to squeeze out the money involved in the bettings.
Police said that the SIM cards, which were obtained by using fake documents, were used for betting. Police said that he seems to be a mediator between Indian and Pakistani bookies. Mumbai Police have arrested 13 people so far in this connection.
Meanwhile, the ‘shocked’ family members have locked themselves up in their flat in Pune and refuse to open the door to outsiders.
