French Open 2013:Nadal gears up to face Djokovic as Sharapova looks set to defend her crown




Paris: Roland Garros has entered the quarter-final round and one match that everyone has their eyes set on is the match between World number 1, Novak Djokovic and the defending champion Rafael Nadal. Nadal and Djokovic are expected to clash in the semi-finals of the men's division if they win their respective quarter-final matches.
Nadal on Monday celebrated his 27th birthday with a win over Japanese Kei Nishikori. He won in straight sets with a score of 6-4 6-1 6-3. Nishikori who was the first Japanese player to reach the last 16 round of Roland Garros after Nakano Fumiteru, who lost in the last 16 seventy five years ago. Nadal will now face Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka who won a hard fought match against Richard Gasquet, beating him with a score of 6-7 (5/7) 4-6 6-4 7-5 8-6. This will be Wawrinka's first quarter-final appearance at the French Open.
Djokovic won his match against Philipp Kohlschreiber with the score line reading 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4. After defeating one German, Djokovic goes on to face another German in the last-eight. He will be up against German Tommy Haas who beat Russian Mikhail Youzhny. 
In the women's draw Maria Sharapova advanced to the round of last-eight with a comfortable win over Sloane Stephens. She now faces Jelena Jankovic in the quarter finals.
Ana Ivanovic crashed out of French Open as she lost to the 4th seed Agnieszka Radwanska. Radwanska will now be pitted against the Italian Sara Errani.
Serena Williams won her round 4 match and now faces the unseeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova in the quarter finals.
