French Open 2013: Fedex runs over Somdev, Serena saunters to 26th straight win

Paris: There were no major surprises on Day 4 at Roland Garros on Wednesday, with Swiss star Roger Federer and US’ Serena Williams cruising to comfortable wins against their respective opponents.
While Federer hardly broke a sweat against Indian Somdev Devvarman, beating him 6-2, 6-1, 6-1 in less than one-and-half hours, Williams extended her unbeaten streak to 26 matches against French wild card entry Caroline Garcia, blanking her 6-1, 6-2.
The Swiss great, chasing a rare French Open success, used his powerful serve and age-defying lateral quickness to get past the two-time NCAA singles’ champion.
Federer will be up against local boy Julien Benneteau, who, in addition to beating the 17-time major champion once this year, also came within two points of upsetting him at Wimbledon in 2012.
In the women’s section, a year after the only first-round Grand Slam exit of her career, which incidentally came in Paris, Serena Williams made light of the France’s Caroline Garcia’s challenge, beating the world number 114 in straight sets.
