Cardiff, UK: It was only apt that India destroyed Australia on the 20th anniversary of Shane Warne’s Ball of the century. In
a spectacular display of skill and sporting triumph, India finished
308- 6, beating Australia by 243 runs. This is Australia’s lowest ever
one-day score.
The match was India-Australia’s final warm-up before the ICC
Champions Trophy which begins on June 6. The Aussies were down and out
in mere 23.3 overs. The credit for this brilliant play goes to pacer
Umesh Yadav and batsman Dinesh Karthik. Yadav picked up an astounding 5
wickets in just 5 overs, allowing only 18 runs to the other side. Ishant
Sharma followed suit with 3/ 11 in 5 overs.
Phil Hughes and Adam Voges were the only batsmen to reach double digit figures.
Skipper Dhoni praised Yadav calling him one of the ‘quickest
bowlers’. Two players who complemented Yadav’s crisp bowling were Ishant
Sharma and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.
The batting helm was handled by Dinesh Karthik, who played on till
146. He got adequate support from Dhoni (91). Karthik was also praised
by Australian skipper George Bailey. He said that Karthik “seemed in
great touch”.
