Bhupathi-Bopanna crash out as Paes advances, Federer vs Somdev today

Paris: French Open 2013 has begun and so have the upsets. First round saw the exit of Venus Williams and Tomas Berdych at the hands of Urszula Radwanska and Gael Monfils respectively. Rafael Nadal had to toil hard in his first match as he looks to defend his title from the like of Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer.
Federer cruised into second round with a win over Pablo Carreno-Busta from Spain. Federer has now set up a second-round clash with India's sole hope in the singles division, Somdev Devvarman and the match will be played on Wednesday, 29 May. Devvarman defeated his first round opponent Daniel Munoz-De La in 2 hours and 37 minutes.
In the women's draw, Maria Sharapova started her campaign with a bang as she brushed aside Hseih Su-Wei and began her defence with a strong statement to her opponents with this thumping win. Serena Williams, considered as the biggest threat to Sharapova's campaign began her campaign with an easy win over Anna Tattishvili.
India's hopes of winning French Open doubles title were dealt blows when the duo of Bhupathi-Bopanna crashed out of French Open with a loss to unseeded Polish combination of Tomasz Bednarek and Jerzy Janowicz. The Polish duo took just 76 minutes to deliver a stunning score-line of 5-7 4-6 to dispose off the Indian duo. The Indian duo was seeded 4th in the tournament
However, Leander Paes gave Indian fans some hopes as he and his Australian partner Melzer beat the local pair of Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Renavand in a little more than an hour. The final score-line read 6-3 6-3. The pair of Paes-Melzer is seeded 9th in the tournament.
