Robert Lewandowski named Bundesliga\'s Player of the Year

Frankfurt: Borussia Dortmund striker Robert Lewandowski has been voted Player of the Year in the Bundesliga by his fellow professionals.
According to espnfc.com, the Poland international, who is a target for Bayern Munich and has also attracted interest from Barcelona, acquired 31.6% of the vote among members of the union of professional footballers (VDV). Franck Ribery came second in the poll with a share of 21.6%, followed by his Bayern team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger (11.3%).
Lewandowski scored 24 league goals last season - a total only bettered in the Bundesliga by Bayer Leverkusen's Stefan Kiessling - while his memorable four-goal haul against Real Madrid formed part of the ten he scored in Europe to help Dortmund reach the Champions League final.

Robert Lewandowski scored 24 league goals for Borussia Dortmund last season.
"I want to thank all the Bundesliga players that elected me as player of the season," he said via his official Facebook page. "It makes me especially proud that the opponents from the league voted for me."
Unsurprisingly, Bayern's treble-winning coach Jupp Heynckes was named Coach of the Year with almost half of the votes (45.9%), while Christian Streich also received a hefty share (41.6%) after he guided Freiburg to a place in the Europa League. Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp garnered only 6.5% of the votes.
Freiburg did claim one award, as Max Kruse won the best newcomer prize after his 11 league goals helped the club claim an unlikely European spot.
