Overlmed by the support from the Indian fans, newly crowned winners thanked the large crowd turning up for the final encounter against hosts at Birmingham.
"Overwhelmed! Weather, toss - all against us. But we fought as a team. Hope our win can lessen some of the pain of the tragedy in Uttarakhand," the India batsman added.
The win became all the more important for the MS Dhoni-led side with the sport hogging the limelight back home for spot fixing in the IPL 6.
Off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, whose miserly figures of two for 15 in four overs tightening the noose around English batsmen, said the victory belonged to every Indian cricket fan.
