London: Red Bull's defending champion Sebastian
Vettel has signed an extension for his contract with the UK based team
till the end of 2015. By signing the extension contract, Vettel has
ended months of speculation over his future in Formula 1. Vettel was
being linked to a move to Ferrari next year and Mercedes had openly
stated that they would love to have Vettel in their line-up.
Vettel, who is defending his championship for the fourth year in a
row, had earlier said that he would quit the sport in 5 years time. With
Vettel confirming his stay at Red Bull till the end of 2015, the focus
now shifts to his team-mate Mark Webber, who will probably retire from
the sport by the end of the year.
Webber had said that he would take a call on his career during the
European leg of this year's Formula 1 calendar. Webber had finished
fourth in the Cannadian GP in which a marshal died in an accident. Mark
Webber's form has taken a dip over the years and it is believed that
Vettel is the one whom the team is completely focused on.
The focus is now on Webber's seat that is if he decides to retire
by the end of the year. 2007 champion Kimi Raikkonen, who made his F1
return last year with Lotus is expected to replace Webber at Red Bull as
he has shown exceptional form since his return to Formula 1. Raikkonen
had left the sport in 2008 but returned in 2012 as he missed the sport.
Australian Daniel Ricciardo, who is currently with Red Bull's
sister team Torro Rosso is another choice that Red Bull are considering
but Raikkonen is being termed as the better of the two.
