Chelsea’s go to man, Frank Lampard’s career with Chelsea turns 12 today.
Lampard was signed on this day 12 years ago for a sum of 11 million by
the English club. Lampard who was a part of West ham before joining
Chelsea left the club after the sacking of his father and uncle Harry
Redknapp.
Lampard is currently the highest goal scorer for the English Club with a tally of 203 goals from 608 appearances.
Lampard, before 2001
played 187 games for West Ham United and scored 39 goals for ‘The
Hammers’. Lampard joined West ham in 1994 as a youth and was soon
offered a professional contract in 1995. He played for Swansea on loan
in 1995 and returned to West Ham in 1996.
Lampard left West Ham after his father and uncle were sacked from the club.
Lampard was signed to
Chelsea for £11 million on 14 June 2001. He played his first game for
Chelsea on 19 August against New Castle. Lampard appeared in all of
Chelsea’s matches that season and ended up with a tally of 8 goals from
37 matches.
During the 2006-07
season, Lampard served as the team captain for Chelsea due to John
Terry’s back injury. Lampard scored 7 goals in 8 consecutive matches and
won the FA Cup for Chelsea. Lampard ended up with 21 goals off his 62
appearances for the club that season.
Lampard missed Euro
2012 due to a thigh injury but played a major role in Chelsea’s Europa
League win over Beneficia that handed the club its 11th trophy under
Roman Abramovich.
Lampard signed a one year extension contract with Chelsea on 16 May
saying, "I always maintained the dream was to stay at Chelsea"
