Sports Desk: Delhi
boy and India’s moustache man Shikhar Dhawan is in splendid form.Having
scored two centuries in as many games, he has propelled India to semi
finals stage in the ongoing Champions Trophy in England.
Chasing a modest 234 against West Indies, Dhawan led the Indian charge with a classy unbeaten 102.
Ably supported by Rohit Sharma and Dinesh Karthik, Dhawan helped India to a 8-wicket win on Tuesday.
Dhawan also equalled a unique record set by Sir Don Bradman en route his hundred.
Dhawan’s century on Tuesday was his second in the current Champions Trophy, and third on the trot at international level.
His last international series was against Australia, where, after a
sensational debut hundred in Mohali, Dhawan was out of action due to
injury.
He became only the 30th batsman in world cricket to score three back to back international hundreds.
The list also features Sir Don Bradman, who scored 132, 127 not out and 201 against India in January 1948.
Each international century that he has scored thus far, Shikhar Dhawan has breached one record or other.
His 187 on Test debut is the fastest by any batsman to have ever
played the game, in addition to it being the highest debut score by an
Indian.
On June 6, 2013 in Cardiff, he completed his century in less than
hundred balls, becoming only the second Indian to score debut Test and
One Day hundreds at a strike rate of over 100 percent.
The other Indian to have done this is Sunil Gavaskar.
Dhawan’s 102 against Windies completed his unique hat-trick.
Two greats of world cricket jointly hold the record of maximum consecutive centuries.
West India legend Sir Everton Weeks and Pakistani great Zaheer
Abbas, in 1948 and 1982 respectively, scored five consecutive centuries.
