Sports Desk: In
the backdrop of the ball-tampering storm that erupted during the
recently- concluded ICC Champions Trophy, the ICC, in its Annual
Conference held in London passed some stringent regulations to curb the
menace.
Besides tampering, some new rules have been introduced in the gentleman’s game to make it more exciting.
The new rules will come into effect from October 1, 2013.
As per new rules, the
television umpire reviewing the fall of wicket, will check for the
waist-high full toss or shoulder-high bouncer.
As of now, the third umpire checks only for the front foot no-ball before reviewing the dismissal.
New rules also specify
the use of Zing wicket in limited overs cricket (both 50 overs and T20).
The Zing wickets will have a flashing LED in stumps and bails.
The ICC has introduced this rule to enhance the use of technology in cricket.
ICC has further vowed to balance the three formats of game.
All full members of ICC will now be required to play a minimum of 16 Tests in four years.
In order to counter ball-tampering menace, ICC has formulated a fresh rule.
As per new directive, in case of a ball-tampering incident, where
the actual culprit is not known, the captain will be issued a warning,
and 5 runs awarded to the opposition.
The captain would be complained as per ICC Code of Conduct.
