Sports Desk: Few
would have forgotten the night of April 2, 2011, when Indian captain MS
Dhoni launched India to the top of cricketing stratosphere. Plagued with
indifferent form since, the Champions hit the top gear in Champions
Trophy held in England.
Currently in the Caribbean to reinforce its superb form, Team India
will soon have yet another chance to establish their supremacy in world
cricket, thanks to ICC.
To top it all, the ‘chance’ will come in front of the cheering home crowd!
The ICC Annual
Conference that concluded on Saturday took some key decisions regarding
the global cricketing events to be sponsored by the game’s governing
body between 2016-2023.
India will host the 2016 edition of T20 World Cup, World Test
Championship in 2021, and ICC Cricket World Cup (50-over format) in
2023.
Also ICC’s Chief Executive David Richardson summarily rejected any
chances of bringing Champions Trophy back to the scheme of things,
clarifying that ICC World Test Championship will replace the
limited-overs quadrennial.
Year 2017 shall witness
the inaugural edition of World Test Championship. Scheduled for
June-July, the event will be hosted by England.
The second edition, to be held in Feb-March 2021, will be held in India.
England will also be the venue for 2019 Cricket World Cup (50
overs), while Australia will play host to T20 Cricket World Cup in
2020.
BCCI President N
Srinivasan, who has currently ‘stepped aside’ pending enquiry over
allegations of conflict of interest, also participated in the
conference.
Srinivasan, whose company India Cements owns IPL franchise Chennai
Super KIngs, attended the Finance and Commercial Affairs Meeting of the
ICC via video-link.
BCCI’s interim President Jagmohan Dalmiya attended the IDI or ICC Development (International) Limited meet.
