New Delhi: Delhi police commissioner Neeraj Kumar said on Friday that police cannot arrest Raj Kundra even though he has confessed to betting in IPL as they do not have enough evidence against the Rajasthan Royals co-owner.

Neeraj Kumar told media, “We don`t have evidence against Raj Kundra, so can`t arrest him”.

On the other hand, Kundra released a statement saying he was innocent and that is anything is proved against him, he is willing to surrender his share in the team. Rajasthan Royals was bought for Rs. 740 crore, in which Kundra and his wife Shilpa Shetty have 11.7% stakes.

The team announced on Friday that if Kundra is found guilty, he will not only be suspended but also will lose the share in the team. Rajasthan Royals President Ranjit Barthakur and CEO Raghu Iyer said in a statement that action will be taken against Kundra if he is found guilty though they agree that Kundra is a law abiding citizen.

Delhi police said on Friday that they are investigating Kundra since his name came up during the interrogation of Umesh Goenka, therefore, the latter will be again called for questioning.

Before this, a meeting of BCCI has been convened on Monday to take decisions on the Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab issues. Meanwhile, Raj Kundra has hired famous lawyer Majid Memon for his defence.

Investigators also claimed Kundra (36) told them that he lost around Rs1 crore in the past three years in betting on IPL matches.
