New Delhi: Cycling Coach Ruma Chatopadhyay died in a road accident on the Noida Expressway on Tuesday.
Ruma was training the students when a speeding Swift car hit her.
The students were riding the cycles while Ruma was following them on a
bike when the incident occurred. The driver of the Swift fled the spot.
The injured Ruma was rushed to the Kailash Hospital where the doctors declared her brought dead.
Reports state that the camp was supposed to be held in Patiala as
Delhi is too dangerous due to the heavy traffic. But, the Sports
Authority of India (SAI) didn't permit the cyclist, forcing her to camp
in Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Stadium (IGI) instead.
The incident sheds lights on the indifferent attitude of the Sports
Authority of India towards the cyclists who represent India on
International platform.
Ruma represented India as the cycling coach at the 2010
Commonwealth Games. She was in Delhi to train the students at the
national camp that began on May 5. She used to train them on the Noida
Expressway.
Meanwhile, the police have registered a case and the search for the driver is still on.
